frustrations with the way some white journalists cover the coronavirus
A few frustrations regarding the recent coronavirus coverage and the :
There’s a vast history of anti Chinese/Asian racism by white journalists/writers/politicians/policymakers of labeling Chinese people as dirty/exotic/weird/subhuman. It was part of overall justification of violence and murder of Chinese people.
In this piece, although I recognize it’d be more impactful if I had video/audio/text clips from throughout my life demonstrating this kind of biased commentary, I’m going to describe common frustrating themes I’ve heard ubiquitously:
Way too many white people act completely grossed out by tripe, for instance, in pho or other dishes, or things like beef tongue or cheek meat in Korean BBQ, but are scarfing down sausages or hot dogs in intestinal casing (or artificial intestinal casing). What do you think is in those meats? Also, so many white cuisines have “offal,” “sweetbread” pate, and the French, foie gras. Calling it sweetbread is absurd.
I’m a little grossed out by chicken feet (as I am with really any feet), but there’s probably chicken feet and way “grosser” things in chicken nuggets. Have you ever seen how chicken nuggets are made?
